About This Plan

The original Bio Action Plan was written in collaboration with colleagues at Sentinel Bio and feedback and contributions from many others. The SAIF team built this website and worked to adapt the plan for an online audience.

The reason for this plan is simple — we hope it will be a catalyst for action.

An extraordinary amount of work has been done, and continues to be done, to make the world safer from dangerous pathogens. We all lived through the difficult years of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the convergence of biotechnology and AI is taking what was already a serious proliferation risk in our deeply connected world and supercharging it. Our defenses are not up to the task today, and they need to be strengthened with great urgency.

This plan outlines a coordinated philanthropic, private-sector, and government response to build defenses that outpace offensive biological capabilities. When we implement it, we will all be safer — from both intentional attacks and natural outbreaks. That is a world we should all work toward.
